Uh oh. New unsuspected roomate!

Brett, my boyfriend of one year and half, came up to Portland for the day. And here's what he brought with him as a surprise. *gasp*. The tank is much bigger than it looks. But now I'm going to have to include this fish in my monthly college budget.

First of all am I ready to take care of such a frail animal? I'm totally up for the challenge, but for a surprise this was a completely unsuspected one. Also I have to deal with my mother who is absolutely against fish pets. If I keep it healthy and happy I am sure she'll get used to the idea. Plus the fish will be much happier in a tank by himself than sharing one with 20 others at Pet co.

When Brett and I installed his new habitat and put clean water in its tank, the fish wasn't very active and stayed mostly at the bottom. It worried us a lot because Klaus; Brett's fish that he kidnapped from a table we were sitting at on the night of my prom. Is a great athlete and can swim around the tank 2 times in one second. So after a moment of reflection we decided to "Google it": for what reasons a fish stays at the bottom of its tank? Answer:
                              A. The water temperature. It has to be around 60.

                              B. It can slowly be adapting to its new environment.

                              C. It might be constipated (?!).

We chose to go with the answer B and leave the dorm to grab lunch then check on the fish later. Today's weather was perfect with a little breeze on the coast. We ate lunch outside on the beach and went on a "road trip" to find a Starbucks because the Cafe at my campus center was closed. On a Saturday, seriously? It took us probably half an hour to find one. Downtown Portland was crowded and it was impossible to park anywhere. So I punched in another Starbucks address on the G.P.S. and after 2.0 miles it took us to a small airport. We were a little bit lost and confused. Third times a charm, and truthfully the third address we tried led us to one outside of the mall. What a day and this isn't it.

Back on campus, we went directly to my dorm and take care of the fish. It was still at the bottom but was pretty excited to see me or that is what I wanted to believe. Brett was so worried he decided to change the water all over again before he had to leave.

After fifteen minutes alone with my lovely goldfish, it started to swim funny and I saw a brown and very long thing stuck under its belly. I almost cried laughing. It was answer C.
